Welcome to Horham and Athelington Parish Council

Representing the civil parishes of Horham and Athelington in the Mid Suffolk district of the shire county of Suffolk

Horham is an ancient village with Anglo-Saxon or Viking origins. Known historically as part of the Hoxne Hundred, the village features 12C St. Mary's Church. During WWII the area was significant for hosting the 95th Bomb Group and formerly had a railway station (1908-1952). Athelington is derived from Old English Ætheling meaning 'farm / settlement of the prince(s)' first recorded in 942. Historically a quiet agricultural community, it once served as a stop on the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway near WWII Horham airbase, and features St Peter's Church, of early 14C medieval orgin, and 17C Athelington Hall.
